I figured I would stitch together a few of my eclipse photos over the beautiful landscape in Casper Wyoming where I watched and photographed the eclipse. Now you all can enjoy it! #eclipse #eclipse2017 #casperwyoming #piefamilytravels

Finally got a chance to look through my many photos of this eclipse, and this one really captures some of the magic of totality, with the threads of light bursting out from behind the moon. An incredible experience! #eclipse #eclipse2017 #casperwyoming #wyoming #piefamilytravels

These are unedited right off my camera, so still need to do a little processing, but I am thrilled I got some good pictures of totality (since I was completely distracted and just blown away). I might become an eclipse chaser - I have to experience that again! #eclipse #eclipse2017 #casperwyoming #unedited

Last photo of Antelope Canyon in Page, AZ. This one makes me think of waves in the ocean - I find it sort of relaxing to look at! #antelopecanyon #pageaz #piefamilytravels

Here’s another shot down through one of the Antelope slot canyons in Page, AZ - these really are a surreal experience! #pageaz #antelopecanyon

Shot in Antelope Canyon in Page, Arizona. This is an amazing slot canyon formed over the ages by water slowly carving out these forms in the desert. At the right time of day during parts of the year, the sunlight comes in and forms these otherworldly beams of light. To get the beams to be visible, we throw some fine sand in the air and shoot a long exposure. #antelopecanyon #pagearizona

Last photo from this trip - This view is down one of the many beautiful side alleys of Haarlem (just outside Amsterdam) with a mother and her daughter biking around town. Unlike most U.S. cities, Amsterdam and Haarlem are very biking friendly and accessible, which is great for the environment, your health, and just fun! #amsterdamlife #amsterdam #haarlem #piefamilytravels

One of the things I love about Amsterdam is the weather. I prefer cooler weather, and during early July the weather was generally 65-72F/18-22C, and there always seemed to be a wonderful breeze - perfect! On this day there was actually very little breeze for a while, so the water on the canals was more mirror-like, which made for an interesting picture. This is looking west down the Herengracht from Reguliersgracht - one of many beautiful parts of the city. #amsterdam #amsterdamcanals #amsterdamlife #piefamilytravels

Grote Kerk, also known as St. Bavokerk, is a beautiful cathedral in Haarlem in the Netherlands, a quick ~20 minute train ride west of Amsterdam. Well known for its organ, people often forget to look up at its incredible ceiling architecture. Right outside is a fantastic street market with fresh food, lots of local items, and tons of flowers. Among the many things to see and do in Haarlem is a wonderful Frans Hals museum, and there is a grave marker for him in this cathedral. The ceiling shot was fairly straight forward, but in order to get the organ with as little distortion as possible, I had to move way back and stand on a bench (there seems to be an observation level but I couldn’t figure out how to get up there). #amsterdam #amsterdamlife #haarlem #bavokerk #grotekerk #piefamilytravels

Amsterdam has 3 (or 4, or 5, depending on what you count) main canals that form concentric belts around the city center - Herengracht, Keizersgracht, and Prinsengracht - along with a number of connecting canals, such that it looks sort of like a beautiful half spider web. Back when the city was growing in the 1600s, each canal had a specific group of people that lived on it - the wealthier you were, the closer to the center you lived. Also, Amsterdam is surprisingly (to me) far north, so in the summer it doesn’t get dark until around 10:30 or later. This was shot around 8:30pm, west down the Prisengracht canal on our way back from dinner at “The Golden Temple” (great vegan food), right as the colors from the sun were getting very pretty. #amsterdam #amsterdamlife #amsterdamcanals #goldentemple #piefamilytravels

Picture from the second floor of the research library in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
Right before I left to visit there, I saw a similar picture online and decided I wanted to try to take one myself! Didn’t bring the right lens, but managed to get a reasonably good shot nonetheless. The museum is incredible, with sculptures and paintings and artifacts from the Middle Ages through the late 20th century. We spent about 5 hours there, but could easily have spent 2-3 days or more exploring it all! #amsterdam #rijksmuseum #amsterdamlife #piefamilytravels
