Deep in the rainforest of Olympic National Park is Sol Duc Falls. It has been on my list of places to visit for a long time. I was so stoked to finally be there, especially in the fall when the leaves were starting to change colors. On this day it had been pouring rain all day, but I knew the rain would make the color of the leaves really pop, so I stuck it out and made the hike. I’m glad I did!

This was the second time this year I’d been out to Cape Kiwanda to try and capture this shot. The first time I went the water just wasn’t crashing high enough up on the rocks. The weather, tide and wave surge have to be just right to get a shot like this. But on my second visit, the waves came crashing in so hard that the water was sent shooting about 40 feet up in the air and would then cascade down the rock face. But be careful if you visit, according to the locals many people get to close and have been washed out too sea.
