Last but not least is my other class 2SR15. Pictured here together with their other subject tutors. This class is probably the one that I have taught for the least amount of time considering that many of them only joined my class this year.
Even so, I really appreciate the kind of energy that this class brings to every lesson which keeps me motivated because I always feel they are always wanting to improve and move onwards. Only exception is when there is a chemistry test on that day and then the whole lesson is occupied with whispers of "Cu2+ is blue right? "😂
My H1 Econs class. I may not see them as often as their other subject tutors but I still feel some connection with this bunch. This class always gives me most out of this world examples and tests my creativity in twisting economic theory to fit their strange examples and they have a strong obsession with fisherman.
Forgive the spam but so many memories to keep and special people to mention.
Here is my form class. I see them day in and day out 5 days a week and I'm glad that I get that privilege to do so. Honestly a very special collection of young adults that never fail to impress me in so many ways.
I hope that I have in some shape or form played a part in making your JC years happy ones. I can't wait to also help you succeed at dominating the A levels so I get to see you have more happy years in university.
Big big shout out to my humanities department for being less like colleagues and being so much more like friends and family. The willingness to just go all out no matter how embarrassing or difficult the task is what I admire about this bunch of people.
Big credits to Ms chew and ms Quek for coordinating everything and making thanksgiving run smoothly.
Thank you to my two partners Mr Jason Tan and ms seow because emceeing is something I'm supremely uncomfortable with and having you two to share the pain made it possible to pull through.
No pictures but also big kudos to our AVA student helpers who make sure we can put up a good performance and sacrifice their chance to view thanksgiving from the audience.
Thanksgiving is finally over and the feeling is honestly surreal. The first time I took part in thanksgiving in 2015 I was really skeptical. In my mind I was always worried "what if the students think we're really lame for doing this?" but that year I experienced the love and belonging like never before.
This year I got to play an even bigger role, taking to the stage as an emcee. As tiring as the preparation was, the happy faces and the warmth from colleagues and students alike made it so worth it.
I may not have another chance for thanksgiving anymore as I move on to another school next year but I have forever been changed from being in SRJC. In my interview with MOE I told them I wanted to teach because I always felt I wanted to make JC life less painful and more joyful. Thankful that I got into a college that lets me do just that.
So I made up for my day of missing my target by basically skipping that target and moving on to the next harder target. Each time I'm running I find myself thinking "man, I really hate running" but then I find that I hate not hitting my targets more than I hate running. "5 minutes feels like almost nothing. And 3 is less than 5. And 15 minutes is 3 times 5. So nothing multiplied by nothing is basically nothing." the lies I tell myself 45 minutes in to keep running the full hour.
A combination of too heavy and too late dinner as well as insufficient sleep for the past few days definitely led to me not hitting today's target of 9kph for 45 min.
In the first 5 min of the run I already felt worse than when I ran the full 30 min on Monday at same speed.
As disappointing as this is, I will remind myself that improvement is often non-linear. Some days you will plateau and some days you will slip up. Shall take today as a reminder that other aspects of my lifestyle are important too and not just the running. Shall adjust the plan accordingly to make up for this.
So I've hit a level equal to my last year's #srwillrun performance. Here on out it's all improvement. Trusting in my training plan and gonna keep at it for my @willrun2017 goal of hitting 10km this year.
So my friend from way back in the day of ocean butterflies invited me to join him on his instagram live show. So follow his account and tune in if you wanna hear me singing and chilling with a buddy.
Follow and join @thealanlim on Instagram on Friday from 10pm to 11pm. We will be doing live singing! Stay tuned. #夜晚KTV
