    My great grandma was a deeply skilled baker, had her own pie shop with one of her sisters, won county fair blue ribbons, kept a bit of a food forest, and taught me all the fundamentals. πŸ“·

    #Sourdough success!

    All that concern over nothing, really. It didn't rise as much as it probably should have, but it doesn't appear (or taste like) it ACTUALLY was overproofed at all.

    But, it's also a dense whole wheat loafβ€”25% @bobsredmill wheat pastry flour, 75% @taborbread hard red wheat. 🍞
    It's supple, tender, perfectly crusted, full-bodied but balanced in flavor, and has just enough chew. It's really exactly what I want and desire in a bite of good bread...especially with French triple creme #brie.
    Next time? Slap & fold dat dough more and use a wet razor to score the top.

    It's #InternationalWomensDay and I'm celebrating by learning/working on my first loaves of #sourdough bread. 🍞
    What's #radical about that? 🍞
    Well, in a society that actively shames a woman who chooses to stay at home as a mother (and let's be honest, shames a woman for choosing just about anything except being scenery), it's become pretty fucking counterculture to make that choice. Yes, there's ABSOLUTELY some privilege in doing so, but we would've had to scrape by with my entire paycheck going into childcare regardless...so why not scrape by and use my prior nannying career & child dev. education to raise our child?

    [Intersectional] #feminism is a lot of things, but it's most definitely the freedom to choose your path as a woman and not let society dictate that path. I'm lucky to have a [male] partner who agrees and supports this notion.

    @missmarissamae I'm a fledgling myself! But, baking is deep in my genetics, if that's even a thing. I recommend first reading through a few sourdough books to find one that resonates, plus /r/sourdough & /r/breadit. Fiddling with starter is key to get a feel for your new pet. With that, I'd be happy to give you a starter whenever you're ready. :-)

    After much "shopping," I've found the naturally fermented #sourdough book for me. I've always severely limited my #baking by shying away from it...but this is one of my 2017 goals and it's about as gut-friendly as baking can get. Resisting the urge to start with anything beyond a nice simple loaf. @zacharighteous does the kraut, yougurt, and kombucha, I do the pickles and [hopefully] the sourdough! #FUCKYEAHFERMENTATION! #domesticasfuck
