Today I'll share this picture of a flower that reveals the beauty in life. I helped get an elderly couple checked into a hotel today while an apartment is arranged for them to live in. They have been living in their car since the shelters closed in the area. These are frail people and as the flood waters rose in their home they accepted that their days were over as they were unable to make their way through. She told me that we all must go and that day was a good day. Thank God for the neighbor that "kicked" their door down and carried them through chest high waters to safety. She told me she had been praying for help to find her - today God answered through Ecclesia. I just received a text message from her telling me good night (it's 3 pm), thank you and that they are at peace in a safe place for the first time since the flood. They will have a long restful sleep tonight. Hold close the beauty in life. Tell somebody that they are loved. #prayforhouston #hurricaneharvey #youarenotalone #youareloved

We were probably in a little over our head today - not enough hands and a little too much work when 10 guys from #Pennsylvania and 1 from #newyork just showed up (one of which looks remarkably like James Harden - ok, shorter but the same weight!). They have been in #houston for 11 days. These guys have huge hearts and blessed Greg and Miranda completely. This scene continues to play out over and over again as people from all over the country support our city in so many ways! These guys truly exemplify what it means to be a #christfollower Thank you Pennsylvania and New York for sending some of your very best and being there for us! #hurricaneharvey #prayforhouston #ecclesiahouston

This 80ish couple spent a week upstairs in their home of 33 years as flood waters occupied the lower floor. They were finally rescued by a neighbor that insisted they come out. Trauma. Fear. Sorrow. Confusion. Too many emotions coming too fast to process but they are strong. Their baby grand piano gone. The LP collection gone. Kitchen, family room, furniture of their grandparents - gone. Rip it all out. Stop the mold from completely consuming the structure. Most importantly let them know they are #loved. Let them know they are surrounded by #community. Let them know this is not an end. #prayforhouston #hurricaneharvey #thishurts

I had the pleasure of working with these guys from Austin the last couple of days. They were diligent hard working guys that had a good time doing it and they could sing! There are so many people, men and women, that have traveled to Houston to help us in our time of need. #thankyou #houstonstrong #prayforhouston #austintx

It has been another amazing day. The people pictured here are neighbors and good friends. Jewish and Muslim neighbors. I had a chance to visit with both families today - they are wonderful, beautiful people. It was the Muslim family that alerted their Jewish neighbor after the flood waters receded that he and his wife had water in their home. @ecclesiahouston a Christian church, was contacted to help begin the restoration process. Muslims, Jews and Christians coming together and united in common cause - so awesome! We spoke about my family and our travels in Israel and Palestine and the meals we shared on both sides of that awful fence. We talked about the overwhelming desire for peace that was expressed over incredible meals and about a young Palestinian mothers desire to just have a green space for her children to play. These are desires common to all people. All people should have these things. I have made new friends - I am so happy. #prayforpeace #hurricaneharvey #houston

Today we met Elisa and her daughter Clarissa. Elisa and her husband, a 28 year military veteran, lived in this house for many years before he passed away a couple of years ago. Before he passed they lost their 19 year old son, active military. Elisa has endured many difficulties but has overcome them and through it all served for 14 years as a certified search and rescue. She is not a big person but she sure has a huge heart. She spoke freely about her struggles and her faith. She was joyful and full of optimism. Today she has a dry home to begin rebuilding her life...again. This journey is teaching me so much. #prayforhouston #houstonstrong @ecclesiahouston

This lady, her son and his best friend live in a trailer near the Brazos River. They had 4' of water running through it at one point. She told me she was happy because the flood was uniting a divided people. #hurricaneharvey #prayforhouston @ecclesiahouston

Yesterday by pure chance I met a really sweet lady who told me that her husband has Parkinson's disease and that she had no support system. Made some connections. This morning my team of 6 were met by a team of 20 from Chapelwood UMC. We waded in and it was a really hard job but as you can see their home is well on its way to drying out! But that is not the story. My wife visited with her on site and she said that in a thousand years she would not have believed that all of these people that she had never met would come to begin restoration of her home. She said she had lost all faith that God even existed but seeing this outpouring of love had changed that and that her faith had been restored. We thought we were restoring a home but really we were restoring a person. When we help those in need, those that have fallen on difficult times then we show the face of Jesus. #prayforhouston @ecclesiahouston #houstonstrong #hurricaneharvey

This house has also flooded 3 times in 2 years. Thats heartbreaking enough. This time the flood took a brother. It's been a hard day. #prayforhouston #hurricaneharvey
