Over the past year in SF, I've swam in the ocean pretty much every week regardless of the temperature. It's a routine that has positively affected my baseline happiness.
So being in New York, I needed to check out the Coney Island Polar Bear Club -- a group of swimmers (mostly Brooklynites) that swim in the water every Sunday from Nov - April. I went with @jmc to participate and photograph the swimmers. I brought a backdrop to isolate expressions and contextualize the swimmers.
It was a special experience. A group of 50 people entering the freezing cold water together, holding hands, singing, and being whacky. I got some pretty fun shots and would love to hear what you think.
The series is called "47 Degrees."
Sometimes in life, we have a burning desire to do something irrational and crazy. We say fuck it and then we do it. And we love it, so we do it again. This is life.
