Kinda weird times in scenic Big Sur. Road closures due to landslides on iconic Highway 1 are tremendously unfortunate. They're a blow to the local economies and everyone wanting to visit. But for those willing to go a bit out of the way, the re-opening of a 36 mile section between closures presents a rare opportunity to enjoy this coastline in unparalleled quiet. That's what @bobryskamp and I did today. With a bit of hiking to access the road, there's 72 miles of unforgettable biking.

The weather is turning and my body is on the mend, so it’s time to start biking to work again. Whenever possible, I take the long way. The extra movement is nice, and scenes like the one above are endlessly rewarding.

"Ocean!" For me, parenting little ones can feel like an emotional rollercoaster. They feel in all-consuming ways, and it can be tough not to get caught up in that. But I sure do like getting caught up in moments like this where their joy, kindness and curiosity shine.
First time school visit ends in a quiet, happy place. I'm always floored by children, particularly the dichotomy I see in a simple front and vast, evolving depth. Plus, sometimes they're monsters and other times they're little monks. h/t @lisakay21
