#DiveInFest day three yesterday was amazing and the speakers were very inspiring and thought provoking.
We started the day with @katiepiper_ , Kellie Maloney and Chris Moon who discussed their inspirational journeys and how they found the strength within.
A few quotes from this event:
"What my story represent is how strong the human mind is." Katie Piper
"I don't like defining myself as a woman. I see myself as a human being." "I hope one day transgender people can walk out of the door and be accepted the way they are." Kellie Maloney 🏳️🌈
"As human beings our similarities are greater than our differences." No matter the disability "I will still be the same person inside and that's what matters." Chris Moon
Inspiring and humbling event at #diveinfest day two with charities @dfs_greaterlondon and @suitedbootedcentre which do an amazing job at enabling women and men (respectively) to increase their self confidence and find jobs in though moment of their lives.
Thank you for the amazing work you do!
An insightful session @diveinfest about #menopause not being a #taboo by Menopause Specialist Nurse, Kathy Abernethy.
The average age for women to reach menopause in the UK is 51 years old.
Around 75-80% of women of menopause age are in work. It's really time to start the conversation about #menopuse at work.
Funny drawing about the Seven Dwarves of Menopause:
- Sweaty - Sleepy
- Bloated - Forgetful and - Psycho
Dr Kimmel explains what makes a successful mariage succeed based on research.
He explains that equality is the foundation of a successful mariage.
When men share household and childcare, the couple's children are happier, healthier and do better in school. Wives are happier and healthier. There is more mariage satisfaction and wives are more likely to go to the gym and exercise.
When men share household and child care men are healthier, and show less signs of depression. The couple has more sex. So really everything points to the fact that men SHOULD share household and child care.
Some quotes from Dr Kimmel's amazing talk yesterday: "As men we are already walking the walk Now we need talk our walk and come out publicly to support gender equality."
"Men should support gender equality because it is the right thing to do."
"Privilege is invisible to those who have it."
"Without understanding men entitlement we won't understand gender equality."
"With children I don't believe in quality time but in quantity time. Doing those routine tests over and over again."
Thank you to Dr Kimmel for coming to London and being part of #diveinfest 2017 💪🏼
'Adapting to the new world of work' with Alison Maitland at QBE #diveinfest
Some insightful quotes from Alison:
The old way of work was along the lines of "How can I trust my people if I can't see them." "The myth of ideal worker always being available" when people like to work in different places and at different times.
5 trust principles:
Trust your people
Rewarding results, not hours (not where and when)
Understanding the business case
Start at the top
Treating people as individuals (days we are more productive are different for everyone) "Being leader of yourself before you can lead other people in this new world of work"
Great first session of #diveinfest with the inspiring and amazing @jonnyandneil and their very moving story on #mentalhealth
The insurance industry is starting to talk about the stigmatised topic and I am proud to be part of the journey.
The quote from this morning that moved me the most: "There was so little hope for getting better" Jonny Benjamin @jonnyandneil
Thank you to @mindcharity for being there
