Finally met and photographed Mr BBC duffle. Walking Edinburgh the last 4 years he is someone I see nearly every week. Thin, rather small, always in well worn fedora and dirty Mack. Easily mistaken for another of Edinburgh's homeless. He spotted my camera. Says, "I was a news photographer". Sixties I'd guess. Not only that but also civil servant abroad, Berlin, Moscow, Tashkent, probably otherwheres. Then a time with UNICEF. I suspect civil servant may be the less exciting explanation for having lived in so many parts east and being rather innocuous in appearance and a remarkable knowledge of photography and photo industry history, easy to miss.
