Portrait of Author and TV Chef Paul Merrett for The Caterer shot back in November. We arrived at the pub at about 9 o'clock on a Wednesday morning, thinking that it would be easy to shoot in various areas inside to get a handful of environmental portrait options before people started coming in for lunch. As it turned out The Victoria pub, serves coffee and pastries and is adjacent to a school so we walked into a packed pub first thing in the morning. After an hour or so, a couple of coffees and a croissant a few areas became free and we were able to shoot 3 inside, 2 outside and this setup in the corner of the restaurant. Thanks to @hospitality_media and @thecaterermag for the commission. #portraits#editorialportrait#blackandwhite#hasselblad#profoto
An unpublished image from a shoot back in October for @buzzfeed.
I was a fly on the wall at Sussex Uni Conservative club and then at the end of the meeting shot some portraits of the group's leaders. If I'm being honest, after agreeing to the shoot I was a bit torn on how to approach it and remember feeling quite uncomfortable going into the shoot.
I don't think I've previously come across a situation where my own prejudices had an opportunity to play such a big part in how they would be portrayed. In the end I decided to give little or no direction and keep everything simple allowing for me just to record my experience of them on the day, which culminated in this chap dressing up as Theresa May and leaping into another of the subjects arms.
Thanks to @lauramgallant and @mrtimlane for the commission.
