Delicious snacks and espresso in Rotterdam. It's good to be back in Holland for the first time in years!
This shot is nothing special, but there are a few subtle things I like about it.
1) It's representative of the influx of immigrants into Switzerland in recent years, particularly from the Arab world.
2) One can see hints of the impact this migration of people and wealth has had on the local economy (see the branch of Qatar National Bank innocuously sitting on the corner)
3) It confirms that indeed, the beating heart of Geneva is still its precision watch industry.
There's so much more to learn about Geneva than just this, though. It feels like I've only scratched the surface of this city, and I would love to return someday.
Had an interesting visit to the United Nations office in Geneva. It's one of four major UN offices worldwide (the others are in Vienna, Nairobi, and New York). Was really interesting to learn more about the UN's efforts around human rights and the like, which are mostly run out of this branch. There are definitely a lot of ways the UN could be improved, but it was encouraging to see the progress being made across a number of key areas. Would highly recommend visiting if you're ever in Geneva!
I love that Saudi Arabia has literally planted their flag at Geneva's most prestigious address, just as a reminder of who really runs this place.
