NYC is a hiking town. Take Metro North 90 minutes from Grand Central to Breakneck Ridge for a fun day hike. The main Breakneck Ridge Trail is fairly popular (crowded), but once you get a few miles in the crowds dissipate and the trail comes to life. Head back to the metro stop along the Wilkinson Memorial Trail for a pleasant stroll along a grassy, wooded ridge with vistas facing the Hudson and farther West toward the Shawangunk Ridge and the Catskills.
