This girl goes to art school one full day a week and today I got to peek at her canvas in her painting class. I don't know if there is anything better than seeing the gifts of your children drawn out of them and affirmed and nurtured. This one is the artist and I feel like all the paint colors that have been swirling in her soul for her nine little years are pouring out and now she's expressing herself the way she's always longed to. #artschool #pdxchildhood

Last night was magical. The children dressed up for wonder, kind neighbors opened their doors, we walked and laughed and ate way too many sweets. The warm glow of autumn's peak won't be soon forgotten by my little crew!

Can I be really honest here guys? Its been a really rough few days. I have felt hopeless and stuck in some personal circumstances and overcome by grief. Our friends lost their six year old on Sunday quite suddenly from complications with chemotherapy and the past 48 hours have just felt bleak. There is no simple way to walk through these days- no easy path from dark to light. But when we sat down together last night and lit candles and intentionally chose to be together after squabbles to even get us all to the table- I remembered how comforting food and my people can be. It was far from perfect but there was something sacred about it all the same.
This week's podcast is the first in a series all about how the table can be a vehicle for discipleship- which is to say, one way that we practice the ways of Jesus together. It's not about being tidy as we gather, it's about arriving messy and poor and hurting and being nourished in heart by being together. I'm reminded of something @sally.clarkson said as we shared together- "The table is a place where spiritual and emotional needs are met." Mine are being met there today... over pancakes and maple syrup and piping hot coffee with cream-the goodness of God cutting into dark- reminding me to taste and see his love when I wonder if he is really near, and I find his grace in the most common of details. It is so surreal to hold this advanced reader copy of my debut book today! The work of writing is such an ebb and flow of experiencing life with others and then burrowing away alone to put stories on the page. There is nothing to write if there is no richness to draw from, and yet, the work itself is so isolating. But this part? The printing, the sharing, the launching a book into the world? This part is like throwing a giant party and inviting you all to come! It's all people and conversations and sharing ideas and I just feel so grateful for the next few months ahead of playing hostess to this celebration.
First off, I want you to know YOU are invited. You are welcomed and expected and will be received with a great big hug. Everything you need to know about this book will be right here for you! But, if you want to be a part even more, launch team details are almost here! Launch teams are the book publishing equivalent of saying- "Hey! I'm coming to the shin-dig and I'd love to bring a side dish!" There are so many fun goodies in store, but limited spaces! You can sign up for my newsletter to be the first to know all the details (sign ups will happen through my newsletter link in the next couple weeks) or stay tuned here for the announcement and how to's. I'm so honored to have you with me here, seriously, and I can't wait to provide ALL the dessert! (Link to newsletter signup is in my profile)

You were made for community. You were made for friendship. You were never meant to do life alone. Today on the podcast @sally.clarkson and I are talking about what it means to put on the armor of God, to defend, protect and even be on the offense as moms-And because we believe so passionately that we are never meant to go into battle alone, we're inviting you to join another mom to study and wrestle through ideas together. There is an amazing offer today at Sally's blog that includes a beautiful (and free!) Ebook about the armor of God to enjoy with your children. (Temp link in profile)

"Be still and know that I am God." There is an invitation in these words. There is a kind of silence that is a soft, patient embrace. But how many of us sway to the beat of busyness, only to find ourselves panting and out of breath? We can so easily ache for peace even as we fear what we will hear if we are truly quiet. Restless, we wear the weight of work, of performance, of expectations, our own distractions and addictions- and before we know it, we're living in constant discord, always rejecting the invitation God extends. Today, let's be brave. Let's go slow. Let's stop. Let's trust that we can because we have a God who never quits and has staked out rest for us. #findingselahbook #analogweekend

This morning's reading. This book comes out in less than two weeks and I can't wait until you all hold it in your hands! I'm making some final notes for our podcast series on the book and on discipleship and I wondered- what questions do you have about this topic? Do you find there is some mystery in that word? Do you wonder how to disciple your children? What it means? How it looks in reality? @sally.clarkson and I would love to know! Leave a comment with your questions here-tag a friend, grab a book and come listen with us starting October 2nd as we dive in together! #lifegivingtable #mealstochangeageneration

I am so excited to share a message with you that's been burning in my heart and life for a while now- how we make much of the in between, the already done but not yet seasons of our lives, and the small spaces to rest and breathe in the midst of our mad dash days. We have a hope in slowing down and being still because of a God who never quits. This is the place where we can talk about Finding Selah together. Join me in the wait? All the little pauses matter. #findingselahbook

Praying for you Florida. Our time in the Keys was one of the grandest adventures our family has ever had, and the people among the loveliest we've ever encountered. The whole landscape nourished us heart and soul and knit us tighter as a family. The Lord keep you. #prayingforflorida
