Comparison can stunt even the most confident of us. I know because it’s come pretty close to ruining me in the past. For my entire adult life I have always had a day job in addition to pursuing music, not because I was trying to support my passion, but because I never thought I was good enough to make it on my own. So for years, I struggled to watch my peers’ careers take off as I sat there not realizing that I was the only reason I wasn’t doing the same. Don’t get me wrong, I was happy for every one of my friends and acquaintances, but comparing myself to them only made me think about all the things I must be doing wrong and never allowed me to enjoy even the smallest victories.
Exactly 1 year ago, I finally took a chance on me, a leap of faith, trusted in God and let go of my day job, my back up plan, to pursue music full time. One year later I get to play The Ryman Auditorium for the first time with not just two different artists, but people that have come to be genuine friends, and to boot, it’s for an amazing cause. I don’t know what this coming year will look like in terms of my music career, but if it’s even half as good as 2017, I’ll be happy. Thanks to Stevie Monce and a special thanks to my boys Love And Theft & company for having me out tonight, and a huge thank you to @claireparks and my family & friends for being so supportive and patient with me. I look forward to rocking for your Mom, Stephen. #ShineforSusie#Grateful
