Thankful; We had just finished our planned ministry program with the kids. It was free time before dinner, and there were children running around, some playing, some washing clothes, some preparing dinner. The team was scattered and I was busy playing volleyball with the kids and it wasn't 'til a few rounds in that I started to wonder where the other members had gone off to. I left the game to look around and I could see that they were busy serving. Albert and Sarah had started to teach some of the children new worship songs on the guitar, Andrew had begun an impromptu English lesson, Yuri and Alicia were in the kitchen helping to prepare dinner and the rest of the members were playing soccer or volleyball with the children. I looked around and was so thankful that the members had taken it upon themselves to serve the children despite our planned schedule being over. They could have easily just sat down and taken a break, talking amongst themselves instead of engaging with the children. Instead they continued to serve and spend time with the kids, involving themselves in whatever they could to love them more. I thanked God because in their hearts they sought to love the kids selflessly, unconditionally, even if it meant continuing to serve in hot and humid conditions and being physically drained. Their hearts were not for themselves, it was for God and His people, and I praised God that He gave us the strength to love. To die to one's flesh and serve without complaint and unconditionally and whole heartedly- that can't come from us, we truly need God to be able to do that. Through the team's actions I was able to witness God's grace and sovereignty, and that encouraged me to love and serve and lead harder, and push through my physical and emotional struggles. He blessed me with a team that was selfless and loving, willing to submit to His will. Thank you Lord, for giving us your Spirit which sanctifies us and transforms our hearts into the likeness of you and helps us to die to our flesh. And thank you, for you are sovereign and you allowed us to partner with you and witness the way your Spirit is moving amongst the people in the nation of Cambodia.
This girl...I told myself I would stay at home all day and rest but she calls and tells me to eat with her and then walk the bayrun...12 years of friendship tends to do that to people. Happy new year home girl! Let's continue to run harder this year! #truehomie#happynewyear
