If you’d ever wanted a #Soundwagon#vinyl bus player (I managed to get one over ten years ago, now) they are pretty cool little noise novelties and are available on @turntablelab’s site now under the title “Record Runner” #recordrunner and is an improvement on the original, or so it says, but I believe it, considering my experiences. Licensed by @volkswagen and made in Japan, just like me. ENJOY!
Everyday #tools for sketching et al.
#everydaycarry Can be a crazy topic so I hope this is helpful to you. Let me know what tools you carry. .
I usually work in my home office but when I do visit my official office space for @creamltdco I bring my backpack filled with goodies. @moleskineofficial art plus sketchbooks do the job with extra thick stock, @blackwing pencils and sharpener, @staedtlermars mech pencil, fineliners, and stick eraser with pen roll, carrying red, photo blue, white, and graphite (along with some brush pens), my tiny everyday knife is a #10049 from Stanley with the sheepsfoot blade, coffee, @sony#mdrxb50AP headphones, and the @apple iPad Pro. Not pictured is the reliable @511tactical 36 rush pack. Cheers.
Another victim of ivy engulfing our trees.
Last month the top of a massive maple fell due to ivy attack. This thick branch from today is part of a tree rotting and breaking under the weighty chokehold of the ivy. That stick root at the bottom of the pic is an ivy stem. Outlook grim for the rest of our trees. Time to call an arborist.
Here’s a custom mug I painted with porcelain paint last summer of Sandy to test durability and how well I could paint with a metal tip on a rounded surface. It’s not too hard but it’s not near a level where I’d prefer.
One interesting method I use when drawing cars is to draw from memory. I’ll stare at the bus and then go inside and try to recall details on the fly. Each one is different, too. Some I remember the gas flap. Some I forget the antenna. Some have no windshield wipers. Some don’t even have a sunroof! (Gasp!) but in this way the buses take shape from memory and end up with their own combination of details that make it unique. As I’ve opened up to other imaginary vehicles, none are now as familiar as Sandy. So every time I get better at remembering each part and their shape.
This mug also has an even tinier version of this art underneath it. And the other side says “meep”. I hope you like it.
It was baked in an oven afterwards. @luxbus .
Reference material. There’s never enough.
Over the years I’ve gathered a few bits to help in my boring quest to illustrate cartoon buses for my own enjoyment. I’ve become a little better at it, too, but nowhere near a professional.
These magazines sparked a certain mischief and fun into my drawings. You may have seen a few this last few years as I’ve posted snippets of Sandy (@luxbus) sketches. If you’d enjoy seeing more of them, I’ll certainly pick up the pace. It’s quite satisfying. #hotrodcartoons#hotrodmagazine#autoart#carillustration#thompsonlemmons#hotrod#cartoons#illustration#hotrods#1972
