Catching that favourite @whisky_chef line, “Welcome to Kentucky, y’all.” Great way to close out #nbspiritsfestival, thanks Matt!

So many favourites tasted year at #nbspiritsfestival, some available, some never having seen North America before, others just really really rare. The Chairman’s Dram with older whiskies was probably my favourite tasting including some old Springbank and Mortlach

Each year at #nbspiritsfestival, @davindek goes deep into his collection to give us the last great malts from closed distilleries. This year he had help from @nicholasjmorgan in bringing rare #portellen bottles distilled just before the distillery was closed down. Many shared a common hard candy note and some peeked toward butterscotch. The 1st ever release was my favourite for this rich and dry texture but it was so close between the last three. The room was divided ... #whisky #whiskey #whiskygram #whiskeygram #instawhisky #instawhiskey #spirits #alcohol #booze #drinks #scotch #singlemaltscotch

#nbspiritsfestival kicks off with a bang with the ultimate master class. You can’t taste these great whiskies anywhere less. I remember saying “I know these whiskies are all supposed to be great, but they are actually really incredible.” Cheers!

Judged the #worldwhiskyawards yesterday, the US edition! There were truly exceptional samples that I can’t wait to find out where they were made. The micro-distilleries are tasting so well compared to years ago and there are a number of drinks that made terrific single malts! Can’t wait to see who won (ahhh not until February)

First famous Pappy wasn’t a wheated bourbon. Tasting the original Pappy Van Winkle that received the 99(ish) rating. Barrels of Old Boone bought from Wild Turkeys (thanks @lougirl502 for the info!). I repeat, not a wheater. Not hugely dissimilar but different in every way (thanks @jackroseindc for the historic pour)

Voted best cocktail bar in America, Columbia is a beautiful date night spot with an interesting cocktail menu—there’s a wine side and a Not Wine side where cocktails are inspired by wines. This is the “Not a Rose” cocktail. Sweet, fruity, aromatic, with a light booziness that stretches out nicely. Good stuff!
