Happy Makar Sankranti! During this Indian harvest festival everyone distributes sweets and is urged to let go of anger and negative feelings and live with peace. Everyone says “til-gul ghya ani gud gud bola” which means “eats these sesame seeds and jaggery and speak sweet words”. The name derives from the belief that on Sankranti, the Sun traverses into the zodiacal sign of Makara (Capricorn) on its celestial path, which is the first change in the zodiac after the winter solstice and is the first day of the month of Magha. The word ‘Sankranti’ signifies the movement of the sun from one zodiac sign to another. Thus, the name of the festival literally means the movement of the sun into Capricorn. #makarsankranti#indianfestival#india#pune#punekar#calindianprincess#bangalore#goa
Every year since I can remember my family would see “The Nutcracker” ballet during Christmas. Here is a photo of Shaunak and I attending the ballet this year. “The Nutcracker" ballet has been a holiday tradition for more than 125 years. Numerous ballet companies around the world stage the famous ballet every December. Both children and adults enjoy the magical performance, for the catchy songs, the dreamy dancing, the elaborate costumes, the fantastical storyline and the memories that surround the annual tradition. The first performance of "The Nutcracker" took place in Russia in 1892. The San Francisco Ballet performed the first American production of "The Nutcracker" in 1944. 🎄🎁💃🥂#christmastradition#christmas#nutcracker#nutcrackerballet#calindianprincess#pune#sanfrancisco#sanfranciscoballet#india#tradition#hindu#maharashtrian
Our India 🇮🇳 Christmas ornament displayed proudly on our tree! 🎄Christmas ornaments are decorations (usually made of glass, metal, wood, or ceramics) that are used to decorate a Christmas tree. Ornaments take many different forms, from a simple round ball to highly artistic designs. Ornaments are almost always reused year after year rather than purchased annually, and family collections often contain a combination of commercially produced ornaments and decorations created by family members. Such collections are often passed on from generation to generation. #christmastree#christmasornaments#tradition#indiaflag#punekar#calindianprincess#proudtobeindian#🇮🇳#🎄
Happy Choti Diwali! Narak Chaturdasi is the second day of Diwali festivities, and is also called Choti Diwali. The Hindu literature narrates that the asura (demon) Narakasura was killed on this day by Krishna, Satyabhama and Kali. The day is celebrated by early morning religious rituals and festivities. Typically, house decoration and colorful floor patterns called rangoli are made on or before Narak Chaturdasi. Special bathing rituals such as a fragrant oil baths are held in some regions, followed by minor pujas. Women decorate their hands with henna designs. Families are also busy preparing homemade sweets for main Diwali. #diwali#chotidiwali#hindutradition#maharashtrian#american#calindianprincess#traditions#colors#happydiwali#happydiwali🎉
