This is one view of steel being melted in an electric arc furnace at the North Star BlueScope Steel mini-mill! There are 3 carbon/graphite electrode rods 24" in diameter, like 12' long charging the steel in the furnace with a small city's worth of electricity. Scrap metal continuously arrives at the plant and is dumped into furnaces in batches of over 100 tons. Within an hour, molten steel at like 3000 degrees is precisely mixed, tested and then cast into giant glowing 8" slabs that roll on down and are washed and crushed in a few stages into giant coils that cool for 48 hours before getting shipped out on rail cars and trucks. Impossible to understand the scale of this without seeing in person!
A tiny, coal black meowler came to us this week, all alone, skinny and with a cold — I guess Ella is going to live with us now. Big brother Benny seems OK with this; for he was a cat off the streets too. #catsofinstagram #🐱
