At age 8, a female student was about to get expelled from school for misbehavior as she cannot sit still and follow the lessons like every other child can.
Her mother ended up taking her to a psychologist to get an insight into what was happening to her beloved child.
After discussing for a few minutes, the psychologist said to the mother, "can I please have a few minutes with you?" The mother said "of course." He then told the little child to stay in the room and he turned on the radio before leaving the room with the mother.
The mother expressed her concern and immediately asked the gentleman right after the door is closed. He replied, after walking a few distance away from the room, "I think I know what's happening with your daughter. Come with me." Peeking through a glass door across the hallway they saw her on her feet, moving around the room, following the beat of the music on the radio. "She always does at school and disrupts the whole class!" The doctor calmly replied, "Your daughter is not sick nor is she mentally disturbed. There is nothing wrong with her." "Mrs. Lynne," the doctor continued, "Your daughter is a dancer. Get her out of formal school and put her in a dance academy and she'll be fine." Gillian Lynne is now 90 years old, one of the most sought-after choreographers in the world. This is her wikipedia bio: British ballerina, dancer, choreographer, actress, and theatre/television director, noted for her popular theatre choreography associated with the longest running show in Broadway history, Catsand The Phantom of the Opera. At age 87, she was made a DBE (Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2014 New Year Honours List.
We're all here for a reason and so are our children. Our task is not to tell our children what to become but rather to help them find their specific God-given talents and help them develop those gifts so they can flourish and become the best of who they are and fulfill God's purpose in their life.
My first ever #jpccmenschallenge!
I am super blessed to have been working at @facebook for the last 10 months where I serve many Indonesian ecommerce to help them step up their game. I also like to listen to Christian praise and worship songs while working as they help remind me to rely on God's grace and not my strength. And for the last 6 months with my wife, I have been building a startup with a mission to reduce poverty in Indonesia by creatively promoting local craft-works.
Poking @dthoon@suryadisantoso@mariojsabato to man up for this challenge 😉
