North of the Wall

The thing we came thousands of kays to see - the ‘torres’ that the whole place is named after. We got up at 6am this morning and climbed 1200m over four hours, winding through lush green forests and scrambling over house-sized boulders. We had the trail to ourselves for most of the way and when we got to the top there was hardly anyone else there. Shrouded in mist and completely otherworldly, the four towers would fade into nothing and then suddenly reveal themselves - larger than life and completely magical. We had lunch on the edge of the lake and washed it down with its ice cold blue water. A spectacular end to five very special days in one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

Wish I could capture the magnitude of this glacier. You could probably put the whole of Joburg on top of it and have plenty of space left.
