Tasks: put #googlevoice#aiy kit together / sorting out the #internetofthings wall! / sketching designs for the life-size ribotSign
Learnings: #pegboards & bucket walls are amazing! / SD cards on the #raspberrypi seem to be very unstable. We've had some corruptions, file systems turning to read only state / #googlecloud console has soooo many options! But thanks to the MagPi tutorial that ships with the updated AIY kit, it's a breeze 😊
Another week of #innovation & we have: The new ribotSign #prototype in action!
Tasks: research #laseretched projects to see how others have constructed their signs / arrange session to cut acrylic at @eaglelabs / test out laser etched prototype with lights
Learnings: laser cutting and etching is all about gaining experience with the materials & working out the right burn rates (power, speed, number of passes) to ensure you get the right kind of cut without making things burn or melt! / laser etching works based on lines per inch - the higher the number of lines the better the quality, but the slower the process. The sample ribot sign took ~8 mins to etch and cut / most maker spaces don’t have a laser cutter that can cut acrylic larger than 90cm...discovered @cut_laser_cut who can cut super large pieces of acrylic!

Tasks: build A4 proto out of card & LED / sketch out design for A4 ribotSign LED prototype / setup prototype to iterate through a number of colour modes & styles 🌟
Learnings: would be nice to see the ribot sign from within the studio as well as outside - could experiment with a backing piece of acrylic that is frosted and not 100% opaque / if you set the brightness to less than 100 (on a scale of 0 to 255), you start to get unwanted spikes of light / struggled getting LEDs to light from our perma-proto hat raspberry pi 3 setup; the issue may have been a loose ground on the power connector for the 10 Amp power supply.
