When you don’t have a lot to work with and all the usuals are flagging, improvise and try something entirely new. You might surprise yourself.

One of my little obsessions—the Transcontinental Airway System developed in the 1920s. The system standardized navigation services for airmail.
Nearby Plum Island in 1910 had the first airport in New England, with the Wright Brothers and other famous early aviators flying from the aerodrome.
Typical design for the beacons included a tower, beacon, generator and large cast concrete arrow showing the direction of the airway, visible from the air.
The Plum Island Airport installation served the Boston-Portland nav route. Remnants of the tower base are still there, as well as a beacon.
