On a Nov. 22 spacewalk, @europeanspaceagency astronaut Luca Parmitano caught a ride over to the worksite outside the International Space Station (@ISS) aboard the station's robotic arm. Known as Canadarm2, the robotic arm was operated from inside the station by astronaut Jessica Meir. At the worksite, Parmitano and fellow spacewalker Andrew Morgan (@AstroDrewMorgan) performed repairs on the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer instrument, a cosmic particle detector. Repairs continue in the next spacewalk on Monday, Dec. 2.⁣ ⁣

#FallFashionInspo 🍂

Even though it looks like an autumn 2019 trend report, it’s even more otherworldly! This #EarthArt is a view of river mouths in Northern Madagascar captured by Christina Koch (@Astro_Christina) from the International Space Station (@ISS). These waters are often a rusty red year-round because they carry iron-rich sediment from highlands in the island’s interior where they originate. Upon meeting the president of Madagascar, one astronaut is said to have joked: “Oh, yes, I know your country. It is the one bleeding into the ocean.” Photographing the Earth from the space station is an important way for @nasaastromaterials scientists to keep an eye on our ever-changing planet from a priceless perspective. You could call it our own trend report of sorts!

What's it like to step out into space for your third spacewalk? "Each time I open the door the views keep getting better." 🤩⁣
⁣
Astronaut Nick Hague, along with fellow crew member Andrew Morgan, worked outside the International Space Station (@ISS) for 6 hours and 32 minutes yesterday. They installed the station's second docking port for commercial crew spacecraft — which will be used by the @SpaceX Dragon and @Boeing Starliner spacecrafts when they carry astronauts to the station.⁣

Astronaut Christina Koch (@astro_christina) recently took this photo of a moonrise over the atmosphere from the International Space Station (@iss). Koch just received news this week that instead of returning to Earth this October, she will remain in orbit until February 2020, which will set a new record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman. The previous mark of 288 days was set by our Peggy Whitson.

Good morning, Earthlings!

Anne McClain of @NASAastronauts captured this photo on Feb. 21 from aboard the International Space Station (@ISS), sharing it and saying, "Good morning to our beautiful world, and to all the beautiful people who call it home! #TeamHuman"

McClain is currently one of three humans aboard our orbiting laboratory. Each day, the station completes 16 orbits of our home planet as the six humans living and working aboard the station conduct important science and research. Their work will not only benefit life here on Earth, but will help us venture deeper into space than ever before.

Meet Anne McClain - an engineer, @USArmy Soldier and one of the @NASAastronauts living and working aboard our orbiting laboratory.
In this photo taken from 250 miles above our home planet, Anne is performing spacesuit maintenance in preparation for her first-ever spacewalk.
She says, “Each suit is like a small spacecraft with its own power, air and water systems which work together to maintain the precise atmosphere in which humans can live, while also protecting us from the harsh conditions of space. Pretty phenomenal design!” For even more stories about women in engineering, check out our #Instagram story!

Parking in space: FULL!

These photos taken by @Astro_Alex_ESA of the @EuropeanSpaceAgency show four different spacecraft docked to the International Space Station (@ISS). Currently, there are 6 spacecraft docked to our orbiting laboratory - the maximum amount that can be parked at one time. These spacecraft arrived at the station to deliver tons of science, hardware, crew supplies, fuel and much more!

"Putting this journey into words will not be easy, but I will try. I am finally where I was born to be." In her first week in space, Astronaut Anne McClain is getting used to her new home in space with fellow new crew members Oleg Kononenko and David Saint-Jacques, who have been onboard the station since Monday. McClain and Saint-Jacques are first-time space residents.

Each day, the International Space Station (@ISS) orbits our home planet as the six humans living and working aboard the orbiting outpost conduct important science and research. Their work will not only benefit life here on Earth, but will help us venture deeper into space than ever before.
