The realities of going shopping while sick/disabled: having to get the handicap fitting room because you need to sit down while trying clothes on or you'll pass out, not being able to take off your braces or unhook from your feeds and infusions, being attached to your bag and feeling like you're on a leash, attempting to try on clothes around your tubing (a lot more difficult than you may think), having to relearn how to dress yourself with all your new "parts", trying on clothes and having to imagine how they will look when not tangled with your tubing, freaking out when you accidentally yank your feeding tube apart and praying nothing got on the clothes, and having to focus on body positivity because your body is no longer the one you've known your whole life. Oh, and having to put your service dog on the bench because there's some gum on the ground that you are NOT going to risk getting in his hair! I think I'm going to start posting more pictures of my tubes and my changing body because even though my body looks weird, IDGAF!!! #bodypositivity

I fought this infection for 3 weeks, without my treatment, and it’s finally cleared enough that I could access my port. My wonderful healthcare company sent me some #GripperMicro needles to try as I have been reacting and getting hurt by the traditional Huber needles.
Accessing with this is difficult as the design makes them give more resistance and last time I tried, I failed. 😔 This was several weeks ago tho and I have since talked to other Micro users, and today I DID IT! Despite being super nervous, I got my port accessed on the FIRST TRY!
This needle is nickel free (to help with my allergies) and so SMALL that way it doesn’t rub up against my tilted port and cause severe bruising and pain. So excited to start my treatment again and get some of my life back. 🙌🏼
I'll be honest everyone seemed a little stunned that this was happening. Thank you fickle mistress. The alternative route would have been a massive pain in the arse. #centralline
|| S U N D A Y || Time for those CVC/PICC line dressing changes!!! I usually tell my patients or their family members that I’ll change it in the morning along with drawing blood and taking vitals. I try my best to CLUSTER their care as much as possible. Why? Because patients and family members don’t sleep at the hospital! We are constantly trying to promote healing, but yet causing a lot of disruption. Keep that in mind next time you enter your patient’s room. What day of the week do you change your CVC/PICC line dressing? Curious what it’s like at other hospitals! Let me know👇🏼 #sundays#nightshiftnurse#12hourshift
