I asked Allison to stand behind the frosted glass bathroom door and my assistant to stand in the bathtub (because of course) and flash her with a blue gelled MagMod 3x gridded flash. This produced a beautifully shaped circular light that was repeated in the vanity mirror just outside the bathroom door where I was shooting. Shot with a 24mm at f2.8.
To my family, friends, and client family, thank you for an amazing year. It's been filled with laughter, tears (often produced out of laughter), and some pretty serious misbehaving. We've created epic stories, pushed boundaries, and made soul fulfilling art. I love you all for your part in that. Now go, break your own boundaries and revel in the experiences of 2017!
I like quiet and graphic silhouettes. For this, Allison and Evan were standing between the bushes with my assistant Evin crouching behind them lighting the wall to white it out. Shot with 70mm at 2.8. The light barely wraps around their faces to give a hint of detail.
@lizgilmoregram and @grant_gilmore had an amazing signature cocktail for their @congresshall wedding. I popped the drink up on a clear glass to elevate it from the background and backlit it with a flash to separate and intensify the colors of the cocktail. Then I used my iPhone as a mirror to create a second layer and more interest. Finally, in editing I made sure to pull out the silhouettes of the bottles and shift the color to a complimentary blue in the background.
Flight of the Dragonfly | When you find a beautiful and permanently patient dragonfly and romantic cypress knees by the water at your wedding, you really have no choice. I stuck Melody's ring into the scene, grabbed Evin, a flash, two iPhone lights and a willing wedding guest to light everything. Yes, I laid in the water and got soaking wet to get the shot but, without a doubt, I would do it again in a heartbeat.
